Photography Practice

Beware! There are no exciting photos in this post, its actually the same subjects appearing over and over again. I'm posting these pictures, so I can analyse these photos and see how I can improve. If you have any suggestions please let me know! It will be very much appreciated.

I am currently reading a photography book (featured in my last post). There are assignments at the end of each chapter, one of which was to use the programmed modes and compare it with the automatic mode.

I can definitely see the difference between the landscape mode and the auto mode. Auto modes uses flash and increases the shutter speed. There are also more shadows as well. Landscape mode uses a higher ISO setting but this due to the lack of flash and lighting. Landscape mode looks more natural.
Both pictures have the same settings except the shutter speed, there is slightly more light in the second picture. I can see how much half a second makes in a photo.

Automatic mode underexposes and increases shadows. Not a very good picture.
I increased the aperture to f/22 and increased the shutter speed to 30s compensate the increase in aperture. In comparison to the bottom picture where there is a lower f stop and lower shutter speed, it makes a hell of a difference. Much more colorful and vivid.
A close up of the chair, there is a lot of noise, due to the high ISO setting. However by this time it was dark and I did not want to use the flash.

I've missed so many good photography opportunities because I forgot to take my camera! Now whenever I go out, my camera is coming along with me!

Photography

I have always been interested in photography however, actually taking pictures and learning more about it has been non-existent. I have had this book on my Wish List for a while now and finally took the plunge last week and bought it. I am super excited and cannot wait to finish the book. I have read the first chapter and I've learnt more about photography in the half-hour I've read it than the 7 months I've had my camera!

I have also decided to turn this blog into a photography blog, as I feel this will best fit my purposes of taking photography and this blog seriously. I have debated about this idea for a long time now, but I feel I will be able to increase the amount posts I make, and also it's a nice way to document my progress. There will still be random posts about my thoughts and feelings but mainly photography.

I can't wait to take you on a journey with me this year!

Notting Hill Carnival

Last week I went to Notting Hill Carnival with a bunch of my friends for my birthday. Many people I've spoken to are a bit apprehensive of going because of the things they've heard. However if you stick with your friends and watch the floats go by, enjoy the atmosphere and dance along to the music you'll be surprised at how much fun you are having!

We arrived quite late, so we didn't see all the glitzy costumes. Although the man in the mask did quite spook me a bit!

I don't think the baby particularly liked it too!

It was a brilliant day! Can't wait till next year!

Titles are for dickheads.

I have nothing to say. By the end of this, you'll probably realise I'm just talking a pile of sh*t. I should have a topic of some sort to talk about. But I can’t for the life of me find anything to say. I just want to write. Write. Nothing to point out, to make you think. Nothing to tell a story about. Haha.

Too many thoughts buzzing through my mind. A thousand thoughts per minute. Constantly reappearing, changing morphing into something else. So unpredictable. Unpredictable. Tell me something, let me think; dwell on it for a while. Ask me what I think about it, expect the unexpected. Too many thoughts buzzing through my mind. Yet my mind is clear.  Thoughts become white noise to me. I'm just living. Living. Living in my own reality. Angry at the imperfections of the world, which make it perfect. Anger is white noise. I'm just living. Living. Reflecting on the past, simultaneously looking to the future.  I'm not in the Now. Yet my flesh is. My body is. My presence is. My mind is in some alternate reality. Perfectly happy. Perfectly Happy. Phased out. Passed out. Unconscious. Asleep. Awake. Confused.

Angry. Frustrated. Annoyed. At what? I can't even say. I want to live. But I'm living. I want to experience. Yet I'm already experiencing.  Picking out holes in an imperfect perfect world. Move! I'm stuck. Moovveee!! I'm stuck! Moovvvee! I'M STUCK! There's no where to go but here. Patiently waiting for life to get a move on. Living in the future. Living in the past. But not Now. Now is good. Now is all you have.

Clear your mind. Stay. No thoughts but existence. Stay. No worries. No f*cking worries.
Stay. Just stay in existence. Embrace. Live.

Scream. Let go. Do something.

Be happy.

Fake Females

If you thought this was going to be a post about fake females you thought wrong! Mwhahaha! Then again I don't blame you though it is in the title. It would have been juicy though!

I lured you in *creepy smile*
Anyways here's a fun fact to leave you with. You eat at least six spiders every year in your sleep. Don't worry they're really small.

I won't leave you hanging, here's a lovely article about female friends.
(Beware it's VERY crude)

My Mourning Jacket

I was watching American Dad (American Dad: My Morning Straightjacket) the other day and they featured this band! Their songs have been on repeat on my ipod ever since. I can't believe I haven't discover them sooner!

Check them out!

Finding Self

Just wondering...

Can we ever stop finding ourselves? I can say at eighteen years old I'm finding myself, but can I still say that at 40. When does it stop being a reason and start to become an excuse? What does the phrase even mean? Is it finding out our likes and our dislikes? Or finding our purpose in life? Is it knowing ourselves? Knowing what we stand for, our morals and our beliefs. Is it all the above? If so then we can never stop searching. How would I know if I have a distaste for something if I've never tried it. How would I know what kind of morals I have if I haven't been asked or tested ? Do we ever stop and say I've had enough? Is there a great moment in our lives when you say to yourself "I have found myself".

I am confident to state I know who I am. I am confident to argue my beliefs and not be swayed by  people's opinions. But I can't say I have discovered the kind of person I am. I'm unsure. As in i'm not sure what my purpose is, not too sure what I want to be in the future, what makes me happy, likes/dislikes etc. Maybe they are two different things very closely related and interlinked, but still different none the less. But I'm not too sure you can have one without the other. Self contradiction

The image above with the quote from Thoreau got me thinking. Aren't we all born lost? Looking for answers to explain why things are the way they are? I don't mean, the big questions such as, what is the meaning of life? Or How did the universe begin? And all that jazz. What I mean is why did they deserve (insert said prize or award) and I didn't? Why is she/he more popular than me? Why is he/she so successful? As we ask these questions; we look inwards and if your like me, you become a self critic. Sometimes good for oneself but sometimes bad.  My point is we are all lost, some a lot, some a little but each one of us searching maybe not overtly or consciously but we are all doing it. I just wonder what it is I'm we searching for...

Part two to come soon...
