The Not So Nifty Fifty

After a while of photographing with my 18-55mm kit lens, I felt that it was time for an upgrade. I was desperately seeking a faster lens and an aperture that went below f/3.5. After extensive research I settled on getting the nifty fifty! But it's not actually a 50mm prime lens, but instead 35mm. On a crop sensor camera, the 35mm essentially becomes a 52mm.

The Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G  is a superb lens.

It's fast, the bokeh is smooth and the images are crisp.

If deciding whether to go for the 50mm prime or 35mm, I would recommended the 35mm because the 50mm in effect acts as a 80mm which could be too much of a zoom  lens due to the crop factor, although it would be excellent for shooting portraits.

The 35mm prime lens is versatile lens. It works great in low lighting conditions. Although auto focus was slightly slower than what I was expecting.

It is fantastic for street photography, as it is a 'normal lens' the equivalent to what the human eye sees, so no wide angle or zoom distortions. It's also small and light, good for taking candid photos of people, whilst trying to discreet.

It is also great for event photography such as weddings or festivals.

Here are a few test shots I've taken with the past few days, without any editing. (Oh, it was so hard to do)

Can't wait too see what more this lens can do!
