Madrid Part 2

Hi,

Madrid is such a beautiful and cultural city. On my second day in Madrid, we explored wonderful shops Madrid had to offer. I bagged myself this jacket! My first white (or cream, I still can't decide) coat! As soon I tried it on I was in love!


After a long day of exploring, we decided to go for a walk in the park, upon which we discovered a fun fair! I didn't go on any rides as I was too tired but it was great photo opportunity!









We later met up with Liliana friends and their daughter. She was the most cutest, smartest and wittiest two year old I've ever! She loved every bit of the fun fair!

Madrid Part 1

Hi! So I went to Madrid, now, what seems like ages ago. I had a really fun time and I enjoyed every minute of it. I stayed with a friend (Liliana) in Parla, who lives just outside Madrid. She was an amazing host, and treated me just like family.

 So on the first day, we headed to Sol, the centre of Madrid for a quick tour of the city. As soon as we got out the Metro, into the lovely streets of Madrid, I was greeted by a man who shooed me towards a band to take a picture with the lead singer! He gave me his sombrero too!

A lovely start to a wonderful city.

Look what I found!

"The trick is to appreciate the mindgames, understanding that they are just games. In fact, all of life and society is just a game, it's for entertainment. There are many ways to pass time, to dance to the music of life, but I personally think that mindgames are the most fun. You say your thoughts are killing you. I felt like that once as well, but then I realised what I've just told you, and I couldn't stop laughing from relief. It's all just a game!

This is a rule that I'm following, it's my motto, I hope it will serve you well: Don't believe in your own bullshit!

I cannot stress that rule enough! If your thoughts are depressing you, then it's bullshit, no doubt. There are no real mental problems, only mental confusion: If you close your eyes to all of that which depresses you, a lack of money, a lack of social interaction, status, whatever it might be... aren't you the same as you've always been? Can't you just... Drop it? Read a book? Play a game?

Society teaches us values that are horribly wrong, such as that we cannot possibly be happy without having a spouse, a lot of money and a job that saves the world or some shit. Understand that you are what makes you happy, and only you. That is how you win the game.

There's a difference between doing the cognitive action of accepting something you've read or heard, and truly understanding it"

Absinthe

Hello, lovelies

A few weeks back, a few friends and I went to go watch Gabrielle Ducomble. 

It was an absolutely fabulous night. The sweet sound of the accordion mixed with the acoustic guitar and Ducomble singing French lyrics with her amazing voice made me feel like I was in Paris.  

Persuaded by the alcohol percentage, we ordered the drink Absinthe, unbeknownst to us it was spirit mixed with caramelised sugar and water. I've tried absinthe before (of which the memories makes me cringe a little #unimemories) but because it was under the cocktail menu we assumed that it would be an exotic cocktail.

It came with this contraption...





The sugar was lit on fire, so that it melts and is mixed into the absinthe.



It was left for a few minutes to be infused


The water slowly drips into the absinthe to create a solution like this




After waiting long time, and super eager to drink our drinks, We took a sip and I have to say it is definitely is an acquired taste. I was very tempted to knock it back and shot it (oh, it took a lot of will power not to).  Although it was definitely a lovely experience, I won't be ordering this again. Give me a shot of tequila and I'm a happy woman!

Panic!































Camera at the ready. I press the button and I wait to hear the sweet crisp noise of the shutter. Instead, I get nothing, but the camera telling me it's finding it hard to focus. Suddenly a feeling of disappointment, anger and nerves hit  me. For a brief second, I have no idea what to do, and think of calling it a night, packing my things and going home.

It's my first time photographing an event like this, and my worst fears has come true at the very beginning. I take a deep breath, and try again, and press the shutter button as hard as I can. Yet again, my camera does nothing. I check my settings, and I've made my aperture as low as it can go, and my shutter speed slow enough to let the ambient light in, but quick enough to prevent motion blur.  My ISO is at 800. I crank it up to 1600 the highest my ISO can go on my camera, then I press the shutter button again.

It clicks. I check the back of my camera to see the picture, not great, but not too bad either. I refocus, and lock my focus using manual focus and change position slightly, taking as many photos as I can before the subjects moves and I'm out of focus again. I check my images and I'm happy with them. Immediately after DJ drops a heavy beat, the crowd goes wild and hands are in the air, I quickly get my camera to capture the moment. I look at the crowd and their excited energy has me shuffling my feet to the beat. The brief panic at the beginning has all gone away.

I quit the gym

If you know me very well, you know I love exercising. I get excited when I go the gym, there's no feeling that can beat a good  high from a tough workout after a stressful day. However after reading True Riches by Jeff Lestz I got re-thinking about how much it costs me and where else that money could go. True Riches is about godly finances and how we can manage our finances in a better way to serve others. Lestz mentions that we should be better stewards of our money, and use it in a way that enriches lives around us. The thing is before reading this, I got a call from a charity which I donated to a while ago, asking if I wanted to donate money on a monthly basis. I politely declined because I felt I had enough expenditures going out each month,. After reading True Riches I analysed my finances to see what good I do with my money. I realised I do very little.

I already had an excuse lined up for this though. If I had more money I would give. Ha! Oh how we are easily tricked by the devil. Thank God for His revelation. What a person does with little money, he will also do with a lot. If I am not charitable with my money now, why would I be in the future? I will find another excuse to not give as much as I can give such as "I have a lot more expenses now", "the timing not right"...

So upon this new revelation I realised I can exercise for free, a jog in a park costs nothing. (Maybe I might start training for that 10K I've been telling myself to do) The money I save at the gym can be used to help a child get access to education or give a family a home. How much more good is that!

It took me a while to realise this simple revelation. For those who are thinking about giving, think about what you can do to save money and for those who do give, keep on giving!
